Putting a human face to the tragedy that is COVID-19...lets remember that this kind of grief is being repeated over and over in our country and the world. I know that grief is the same regardless of the reasons that we lose our loved ones; but, in the COVID-19 case it is easy to lose sight of the human toll with all the interest in reopening, jobs loss, losses in 401k and retirement accounts, restrictions on our daily lives, and Congressional/presidential actions re: new bills and all the other realities of this pandemic.

As of today in the United States, there are more than 1,010,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and nearly 57,000 deaths. Experts have suggested that only about 10-15% of those actually infected with the virus have been tested. If that is the case, then it appears that many don't get sick enough to seek serious medical treatment and/or testing; or, they somehow fall through the cracks, e.g., homeless, really elderly in nursing homes who have severe other medical conditions, etc. I read early today somewhere, can't remember the media source, that 1 in 4 or 25% of the NYC population have tested positive for the antibodies. With a population of >8 million people that means that something like 2 million people were infected at some point with the virus. Again, showing that there are many who escaped the extreme medical conditions suffered by some; and/or not even sick enough that they were tested and found to have been infected. These figures also suggest that only 10-15% figure is correct as NYC has 292,000 people confirmed to be positive for COVID-19.

We can’t forget the human toll. Those who insist on having their own way and to hell with anyone else; like that protesting idiot f’er on the video who said it wasn’t his responsibility to worry about other people...should be made to read about/watch the accounts of the medical personnel who have gotten sick/died or reached their breaking points taking care of those with COVID-19.

Everytime I hear elected officials making unsubstantiated claims, I think of Charles Darwin's book, On the Origin of Species, specifically the second part, Natural Selection.

Federal guidelines say a state should have 2 weeks worth of declining new cases before reopening and lifting restriction—and no state yet meets that guideline. So, be smarter than your governor if your governor isn’t so smart. Protect yourself and don’t depend on others to give a damn if you or yours gets sick or not.

The next wave will be all those healthy people that hibernated in the homes for the last 3 months! Not those that started to come out gradually or have been out.

Yeah, it would be kind of hard for those who are already dead to catch it again, 'eh?

Why face masks do not work.
When the person pees in his pants, he takes them off.
Now to protect those around him, they would go directly into the washer.
Unfortunately, they get tossed on the floor. Now the floor is contaminated.

People wearing masks have no clue how they should be disposed.
If you are wearing a paper one, throw it away in the trash as soon as you are done.
If you are wearing cloth, place in a baggie until you get home to put it in the wash.
Instead they shove them in their purses or pockets, contaminating all the contents within.
Then they take them out to wear in a different location. Now possibly carrying the virus to another place.

And there are those who drive up a down Interstate exit or in an oncoming lane of traffic causing accidents and/or death to themselves or others; while most others drive in the correct lanes and in the correct direction on Interstate exits allowing them and others to live and drive another day. Don't assume all people are uninformed, ignorant or stupid. For many, face masks do work.

Either one is part of the solution or part of the problem...it is their choice which to be. Make good choices, it makes life easier for one's self as well as others.

Let's keep throwing spaghetti against a wall. Something is bound to stick!!
What about, “This is a newly discovered disease and the more it is encountered the more there is to learn about it” is so hard to accept or understand? What do all these many medical folks have to gain by putting out all this false information.

We’ve come a long way from witch doctors treating the ill and witch’s brew the accepted medication.

I have seen people ask what Bill Gates knows about contagious diseases and pandemics. Some of the comments seem to suggest that there is “something nefarious going on.” I am going to assume that most people are really interested and don’t know that he and his wife have spent decades and many tens of billions of dollars to help fund their foundation. Other of the world‘s billionaires have pledged many more tens of billions to the foundation; and, the world’s best and most talented medical minds, especially in the infectious and contagious disease arena, work with them. The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is the largest philanthropist foundation in the world.

So, having uncontrolled diabetes automatically makes one a liar? Does being anorexic automatically make one a liar if she admit to sneaking a french fry once? Does having emphysema automatically make one a liar when she removes her oxygen tube to smoke a cigarette? (My mama had a friend who would do this, she said she was already dying so why should she also have to suffer the agony to stop smoking also, that she wanted to enjoy what little time she had left and she enjoyed her cigarettes.)

The fact that a report is unreleased, doesn't mean that no one knows what is in it. The fact that the various states release information on the Internet of their COVID-19 stats, etc., make the information available to many. The article says that "NBC obtained" a copy of the report (the report is shown in the article)--it doesn't say how...could it have been released to them by someone who feels they have a duty to ensure that Americans have the information they need because they can't trust their president to be honest with them--a person who has a loyalty to their country rather than to one man who will lie to his country???

It seems to me that people are often inclined to "deny" that which either they are afraid of, that inconvenience them, something might be expected of them, something they don't understand or "know for a fact," that if acknowledged might require them to change something, so on and so forth...kinda like the facts of pollution and climate change.

I once worked with a 40-something attorney who use to run during his lunch time, in the middle of the day in Louisiana during the summer when the temperatures were above 100 degrees with the heat index even higher. His co-workers would tell him that it was too hot and dangerous to run then...he'd always answer that he does it all the time and never had a problem. One day, running at noon when it was 103 degrees he fell out with heat stroke and a heart attack. He was right, he never had a problem until he had a problem. After he recovered, this smart educated man still couldn't seem to grasp the idea that what he had been doing was not only dangerous but also stupid, because it had never happened before.

Where did I call him a liar?
If he can't take care of his own health, why do you think we'd want health advise from him?

You didn't use the word, "liar" and if that was not your suggestion when you wrote:

I apologize for misinterpreting your meaning. It appeared to me that you were suggesting since he admitted to having uncontrolled diabetes that what he had to say was without merit and thus not true. He wasn't giving advice, he was telling of his and his wife's experience with COVID-19.

Except that very few have died of covid specifically and the bureaucracy of government money allocation is causing gross overstatement of Corona deaths. Fauci has had his 5 minutes of stardom, maybe he will get back to doing SCIENCE!

I CAN ATTEST That the real impact to our household is from the hyperbolic overstatement, fearmongering and continuing media obstruction to our elected leadership. go to the hospital and and get your elective procedures, health insurance companies are not going to refund your premiums for refraining.

Thanks to more testing.
Remember only those with symptoms were able to be tested. Now they opened it to anyone who wants one.
Wonder how many are false positives?
I think the better question is how many are "false negative" ... it was reported that with the Abbott quickie test only .02% of the results are a false positive where rate of false negative has been as high as 48%. Meaning that it may falsely identify 2 people out of 10,000 as positive while missing 4,800 out of 10,000 people who are positive yet test negative. Of course, the wait-for-longer-but-more-accurate-tests are not nearly as often wrong as the Abbot quickie test. However, with someone accurately testing negative this week, there is no presumption, insurance or guarantee that they wouldn't, subsequently, accurately test positive should they come into contact with the virus during the following 2 weeks.

IMO, the lesson here is to not let your guard down and take whatever precautions are available to protect oneself. Realize that you are responsible for your own survival and you can't depend on others, if you are reckless yourself.

The first line of that article is really stupid. " It’s easy to assume COVID-19 cases will go down after lockdown orders lift" says no one. and even then if you actually look at the numbers the article cites they are not alarming or unexpected. I am shocked that even the authoritarian left are so easily willing to discard personal liberty for an extended period and have no concept of the continuing consequences to all all other aspects from shutting down the machine that makes our highest quality of living standards possible. People who are genuinely afraid should remain agoraphobic, and those with vulnerablilities extra precautionary. however forcing everyone to isolation and nonproduction. Will cause catastrophic damage to our ability to recover momentum.

One has nothing to do with the other except for trump's poor showing as failed leader.

But as a loyal supporter keep trying to steer the "story" away from him and his gross behavior, failures and disgusting existance.

How does Trump have control over who attends funerals?
The gross behavior is from the governors in each state that haven't stop them. And won't!
Just proves there is NO reason not ot be able to vote in person!
