Trump says he didn't believe intelligence about Russia paying bounties on U.S. troops 'to be real'

President Trump on Friday disputed a finding by U.S. intelligence that Russia paid bounties to Taliban fighters in exchange for killing American troops stationed in Afghanistan.

It was never brought to my attention, and perhaps it was never brought because I didn’t consider it to be real,” Trump said during a visit to Orlando, Fla., adding, “If it did take place, it would have been brought to my attention and I would take very strong action.” *

Yet the finding by U.S. intelligence was included in one of the President’s Daily Briefs in late February, and Trump was asked Friday whether that meant he didn’t read them.

“It was never brought to my attention. I think it’s another Russia hoax. They’ve been giving me the Russia hoax, Shifty Schiff and all these characters from the day I got here and we’re working with Russia right now on a nonproliferation agreement.”

On Tuesday, Trump said that he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin this week but did not bring up the finding that Russia had paid bounties on U.S. troops.

“That was a phone call to discuss other things, and frankly that’s an issue that many people said was fake news,” Trump said.

Since the finding appeared in the Presidential Daily Brief, Trump has spoken to Putin on eight different occasions, Axios reported.

Former Vice President Joe Biden has seized on the story, and Trump’s responses to it, as a campaign issue.

“The idea that somehow he didn’t know or isn’t being briefed, it is a dereliction of duty. If that’s the case, and if he was briefed and nothing was done about this, that’s a dereliction of duty,” Biden told reporters earlier this month.

Biden spokesman Andrew Bates released a statement on Wednesday that continued the criticism of Trump. “The most critical and sacred obligation of a commander-in-chief is to protect those who serve our nation in harm’s way,” Bates said. “But months after the U.S. intelligence community sounded the alarm — to Donald Trump and to our allies — that Russia was placing bounties on the heads of American servicemen and women in a war zone, our president continues to turn his back on those who put their lives on the line for our country, and on his own duty.”
*I suppose the dumbass was just out golfing one day with Lindsey Graham, and said to him, just out of the blue..."I really don't think Russia is paying the Taliban to kill Americans. I just don't think Putin would do me that way." When Graham, got back to his office, he called the intelligence folks and said to them. "I'm hearing rumors that you guys have information about Russia paying the Taliban to kill Americans and our allies. Don't bother taking it to trump, because he has already determined that it is a hoax." So, just dump the report in the round file." So, the intelligence folks just trashed the report and forgot all about it...and then lied about putting it in the briefings that trumps says he reads all the time. Yeah, right....NOT!!!

Does the cult believe it? Of course, those with an IQ over 80 know it is a lie; but, will they care???

A vote for this despicable self-centered deplorable piece of dung is a vote against the interest of our Armed Forces.

trump’s DOJ is violating people’s 1st, 4th and 14th Amendments right...it is going to cost yuge dollars.
Attorney General William Barr gave testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday in response to the deployment of federal troops to cities to manage the rioting. While they didn't allow him to fully answer many questions, Tim and Adam (and undoubtedly many other Americans) noticed a lot of poor behavior from our democratic leaders.

Do you think that excuses the lying Attorney General of the United States? Of course, an attorney, especially one who has advanced to become an Attorney General of the United States should know to answer the question asked and not try to skirt the answer, try to talk about things irrelevant and editorial his answers, etc. I actually watched most of it and not just the sound bites that various news outlets and YouTube stars fed to their audiences. Barr was being combative and got shot down...(many of the "not allowing him to fully answer" when he was going off subject/trying to divert/deflect from of the actual question) claims.

But yes, I can admit that there are bad actors on both sides, will you?

2:30 p.m. Barr says use of tear gas appropriate 'to disperse unlawful assembly'

In an exchange during which Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., asks Barr a question about the use of tear gas on Portlander Christopher David -- a Navy veteran seen on viral video being beaten by federal agents -- Barr says, "I don't know what kind of gas it was." (It was on video for the whole world to see, the Navy veteran was not being threatening in any way, Barr was non-responsive to the question and trying to deflect away from it by claiming not to know what "kind of gas it" was coming out of the officer's weapon)

Barr went on to defend the federal presence in Portland and the use of force against protesters, claiming that agents are needed to prevent "violent attacks on federal courts" from "metastasizing around the country."

Asked by Cicilline if it's ever appropriate for officers to use force against peaceful protesters, Barr says it is when the gathering is unlawful. (What constitutes a gathering of individuals acting peacefully in a church courtyard and public park on on a public street?--When he and trump sent untrained officers in riot/crowd control to Portland and used American military people against peaceful protests at a Washington DC church and park. The first Secretary appointed by George W. Bush at the founding of the Department of Homeland Security, a Republican Tom Ridge when asked about the Portland debacle said he would resign before he would have sent his officers into a city like that.)

"It is appropriate to use tear gas when it's indicated -- to disperse an unlawful assembly and sir, unfortunately peaceful protesters are affected by that," Barr said.

But Barr continued to deny the use of tear gas at Lafayette Park on June 1, even as a U.S. National Guard major testified in a different House hearing Tuesday that there was, and that he picked up the shells on the street that day. (Barr lied to Congress, a Federal offense under the penalty of perjury punishable by prison and/or fines.)

So, we have a nice Lady who lives down the street, shes Single and walks her dog regularly She's new to the area and often seems like she enjoyed chatting and interaction, she seems lonely to be honest and like all the many people that walk on my street I make a point to be friendly and exchange greetings and chit chat. I don't engage in political debate or terribly deep topics, mostly they are interested in whatever project I am working on or the ever changing garden and flowers. I degrees , this lady approaches Nap-master one day a few weeks back , when they meet while walking dogs. He is a pro at polite Conversation and being non-contriversial, keeping his opinions to himself. So first off she offers up that one of our neighbors of 25 years who's kids went to school with ours and we have always been friendly with, She say "he's such an asshole" when Nap-master doesn't react She blurts out , Your not going to vote for trump are you!............ A week later another neighbor pulls me to the side and Says "You know what? That lady down the street has been telling people that **** (another neighbor) Had Covid, He did not! he was in the hospital but not for Covid!"
After I put my Trump Pence 2020 signs up, last week and I saw her coming by, I yelled out my customary friendly greetings and said Hello *****, She suddenly looks agitated and says to me I cant believe you are going to vote for trump again! I reel back and not being like Nap-master Retort, I cant believe anyone would vote for Biden, Hes an idiot ! Of course she had a Bloomberg sign up for a short run So I can't imagine she has any Rational reasoning for voting for anything except against trump, She walked away babbling incoherently with a thesaurus of negative prerogatives and trigger words from Fake news.
I really feel badly for her, shes kinda like delta dawn in a way, I care;I support reparations;By the media; For those affected by TDS, It's really going to get rough for them over the next few months.

That is what is wonderful about this country, people can still vote for whom they want--even if the person they are voting for is a proven corrupt criminal...and as trump announced, he could shoot people on 5th Avenue and not lose a vote. However, there are those* who have turned on him who did vote for him 2016, who won't be voting for him again (so, he was wrong again in some respects, but there are still plenty who blindly follow or just don't care (and that's the part I really don't get) that he is the idiot and lying POS that he has proven to be, which is their right even if I don't understand it; however I fully support that right). I have posted many of the ads and declarations of those who voted for him in 2016 and won't again.

*The Lincoln Project; VoteVets; ALiberalSeal of Twitter fame; Republicans Against Trump organization, etc. ...and the list grows almost daily.

And then there is this:

Why do trump voters not care about these things about trump? Why are they willing to disregard this and also the fact that he is reaping many hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and campaign contributions (against campaign laws) into his businesses much less care that other Republicans are allowing him to get away with it? Can you imagine what will come if he wins the election and the House and Senate both end up in the hands of Democrats?

Officials Concluded Trump Was National Security Threat

Carl Bernstein: “In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders… and so abusive to leaders of America’s principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials — including his former secretaries of state and defense, two national security advisers and his longest-serving chief of staff — that the President himself posed a danger to the national security of the United States.”

“The sources said there was little evidence that the President became more skillful or competent in his telephone conversations with most heads of state over time. Rather, he continued to believe that he could either charm, jawbone or bully almost any foreign leader into capitulating to his will, and often pursued goals more attuned to his own agenda than what many of his senior advisers considered the national interest.”

Remember how ape sh!t everybody went when Hillary said, "What difference does it make?" during one of the 8 or 11 or however many Congressional investigations were made over the horror of Benghazi where there was never a finding of guilt or mis-handling of the case by the GOP-majority Congress regardless of how hard they tried???

Those same people appear to be silent on the idiot-in-chief's remark that shows just how stupid and unable to deal with reality he is and they want to allow him to continue being the narcissist ignorant and stupid moronic sociopath he has proven to be.

August 4, 2020

Today, the major domestic news was last night’s Axios interview, in which reporter Jonathan Swan challenged Trump’s assertions and revealed just how shallow the president’s understanding of the pandemic, mail-in voting, and so on, really are. The interview showed little that we didn’t already know, but to see the president dismiss the 156,000 deaths from coronavirus, for example, by saying “it is what it is,” was nonetheless shocking.

Everything else today was about partisanship. Trump followed up last night’s interview with another gaffe this morning. At a press conference, he demonstrated that he could not pronounce “Yosemite,” one of the nation’s best known national parks. Trying to read it from a sheet of paper, he tried twice to come up with the right pronunciation—Yoh-sem-it-ee—and instead settled on “YO-se-MIGHT” and then “Yo-se-min-NIGHT.”

Yosemite is quite a common word in America, and observers expressed surprise that Trump was apparently not familiar enough with it to recognize it, especially since he was saying the word to publicize the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act, which he claimed rivaled the accomplishments of President Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt did not initiate the federal protection of conservation land but broadened it so dramatically he is known as the “conservation president.”

The new law provides up to $9.5 billion over five years to begin addressing long-overdue maintenance at national parks, and it passed on a bipartisan vote. Representative John Lewis (D-GA) who passed away last month, introduced the bill last year. Trump came around to the bill only after two Republican Senators, Corey Gardner (R-CO) and Steve Daines (R-MT), told him it would help their reelection bids.

Nonetheless, Trump claimed all credit for the bill for Republicans. He invited no Democrats to the signing, and when reporters asked Kayleigh McEnany, the White House press secretary, why Democrats had been excluded, she said “the only thing we’re recognizing about congressional Democrats right now is how appalling it is that there are Americans… who are going without paychecks because they refuse to partner with Martha McSally, Republicans and the president to make sure those payments go out." (trump's press secretary whore [not in the sexual sense] lied! The House sent the HERO's Bill to the Senate approximately 6-7 weeks ago that extended the $600 government unemployment benefit to those who are unemployed because of COVID-19 until the end of the year. Moscow Mitch sat on it, the Senate totally ignored it! Anything do now, it is obvious, will be done for whatever political benefit they feel will help them, they don't give a good f**k about the unemployed and hurting people. Anyone who can't see this is deliberately acting deaf, dumb and stupid!)

This is political spin. The reality is that the Democrats passed a coronavirus relief bill in May and the Republican Senate refused to take it up. Senate Republicans turned to the construction of their own bill too late, and now cannot agree on their own package. So now Democrats are negotiating directly with the White House. While the two sides are apparently making some progress, it’s slow going.

While he could not find a way to put together a coronavirus relief bill, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has continued to push through judicial nominations.

The political calculation behind the Republican attack on mail-in voting was also clear today. Republicans have previously endorsed mail-in voting, but Trump’s insistence that mail-in voting will cause fraud and the “most corrupt election” in American history has apparently discouraged Republican voters from applying for ballots. Republican leaders are panicked.

So today the president did an abrupt about-face, at least for the Republican state of Florida. “Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting,” Trump tweeted today, “in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True. Florida’s Voting system has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!” (This is no surprise, nothing this stupid idiot does should surprise anyone at this point during his administration. In fact, the more stupid and idiotic something he says is, should be totally expected.)

Today the New York Times also reported that at least four of the people involved in trying to get Kanye West on the ballot this fall are prominent Republican political activists, suggesting that they are hoping the rapper and artist West will be a spoiler for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. Trump himself retweeted a post suggesting that West could “siphon black votes away from Biden.” There are some signs that this political gambit is not in West's best interest. His family members have apologized for West’s recent erratic behavior and noted that he suffers from mental illness. (Why am I not surprised that GOP members would take advantage of an obviously delusional, mentally ill person? I'm not really, I've learned to expect the deplorable, despicable and corruption from anyone within the trump sphere.)

Tonight Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) tweeted “Shocked & appalled—I just left a 90 minute classified briefing on foreign malign threats to our elections. From spying to sabotage, Americans need to see & hear these reports…. Protect our democracy from destruction by declassifying key intel describing the danger of foreign subterfuge to our elections. Congress has been briefed, but sworn to secrecy—unacceptably.” (Yeah, it has been reported on more than one occasion that trump believes his base to be "stupid" and it is his intent to keep them that way. If I was a trump voter and not stupid, I'd make sure he knew that he had misjudged me, and he'd never get another vote of mine. Many GOP members have done that and are actively working against his re-election)

He said no more than this, but it is noteworthy that Blumenthal sits on the Committee on Armed Services, where he sits on the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity.

On July 24, less than two weeks ago, the four Democrats on the Gang of Eight—the leaders of both parties in both houses of Congress who deal with national security—demanded that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence accurately warn Americans of the foreign threat to our elections. (The GOP has a self-serving interest in keeping this information from their base and supporters. They know they can't win if people know and understand what an abject failure they have been in doing "the right thing.")

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), and ranking member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Mark Warner (D-VA) were clear that foreign actors are attacking us. “Almost exactly four years ago, we first observed the Russians engaging in covert actions designed to influence the presidential race in favor of Donald Trump and to sow discord in the United States. Now, the Russians are once again trying to influence the election and divide Americans, and these efforts must be deterred, disrupted and exposed,” they wrote. (IMO, anyone supporting and continuing to vote for those who refuse to do anything about this attack on our democracy and country are complicit in their deception and selfishness and disregard for the "rule of law.")

The director of the United States National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC), William Evanina, tried to suggest that China, Russia, and Iran were equally responsible for attacking the 2020 election. They are, he says, using “influence measures in social and traditional media in an effort to sway U.S. voters’ preferences and perspectives, to shift U.S. policies, to increase discord and to undermine confidence in our democratic process.”(And some Americans are only too happy to help with this deception by reposting, retweeting, etc. of memes, videos and postings that are totally false. I can't help but wonder if they do this, knowing that the information is false and distributed for nefarious reasons and simply don't care and are willing to do whatever they can to deceive their fellow American citizens?)

The NCSC is part of the office of the Director of National Intelligence, now overseen by Trump loyalist John Ratcliffe. Trump, of course, dismisses the idea that Russia intervened on his behalf in 2016, despite findings to the contrary by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee.

The four top Democrats were alarmed at Evanina’s attempt to make it look like there was simply a general attack on the U.S. election rather than one that called out what appears to be evidence that Russia, especially, is at work again to shape the election.

“A far more concrete and specific statement needs to be made to the American people, consistent with the need to protect sources and methods,” wrote Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, and Warner. “We can trust the American people with knowing what to do with the information they receive and making those decisions for themselves. But they cannot do so if they are kept in the dark about what our adversaries are doing, and how they are doing it. When it comes to American elections, Americans must decide.”

I search out the comment, in context, when I saw the "Are you a junkie?" comment. Of course, those on the Right, as is their wont, tried to imply that it was said in a way and with intent to mean something other than the actual context.

...
"No, I haven't taken a test. Why the hell would I take a test? Come on, man,” Biden said. “That's like saying to you, before you got on this program if you had taken a test were you taking cocaine or not. What do you think, huh? Are you a junkie?"

A clip from the interview, which was conducted as part of the virtual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, was released Wednesday morning.

"It was a preposterous question deserving of a response that showed the absurdity of it all," a Biden campaign official told POLITICO.
...
You'll see, in case you didn't read the whole article that you posted, that in context, it was said to the reporter in exactly the same way that the reporter asked the question of Biden. Yes, Biden could have answered the question in a more diplomatic way by saying only, "No, I haven't as my doctors have never seen any indication why I should as I have not demonstrated any reason to believe that I am unable to still function and able to take care of myself and my needs." BTW, a cognitive test is not a test of intelligence but rather a test to see if one can still "function on their own" without burning down the house or wandering off and walking in front of speeding traffic.
